Why shock absorbers?

Image
In their simplest form, shock absorbers are hydraulic (oil) pump like devices that help to control the impact and rebound movement of your vehicle’s springs and suspension. Along with smoothening out bumps and vibrations, the key role of the shock absorber is to ensure that the vehicle’s tyres remain in contact with the road surface at all times, which ensures the safest control and braking response from your car. What do shock absorbers do? How do they work? Types of shock absorbers What do shock absorbers do? Essentially, shock absorbers do two things. Apart from controlling the movement of springs and suspension, shock absorbers also keep your tyres in contact with the ground at all times. At rest or in motion, the bottom surface of your tyres is the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road. Any time that a tyre’s contact with the ground is broken or reduced, your ability to drive, steer and brake is severely comp...

Moto G 3rd Generation

Image
The Moto G 3rd generation is by no means the best Android phone you can buy, but it may be the cheapest good phone you can buy. And I mean really cheap-- $179 full retail for a name brand phone with good warranty and support and 4G LTE? Wow. No monthly payments for the phone and no carrier ties; just $179 and you're good to go. The specs aren't scraping below your knees either: it has a quad core 1.4 GHz Snapdragon CPU, a quite decent 13MP camera with two-tone LED flash, a sharp 5MP front camera and a generously sized 2470 mAh battery. Throw in a nice looking 5" HD display, IPX7 water resistance, an SD card slot and a variety of back cover colors plus the option to build your own look on the Moto Maker website, and you're getting a lot for your money. Yes, 2015 is the year of affordable Android phones, particularly unlocked GSM models like the Moto G. But none are quite as cheap, making the Moto a go-to phone whe...

iPhone 6s & iPhone 6s Plus

Image
It's Apple's best iPhones ever. Each year Apple tells us this, and thankfully for them (and consumers), they've been right. Of course most products do improve with each iteration, but we didn't expect to see significant bumps in an "s" year, Apple's off year where they often don't add significant new features and never implement design changes. This year the new Apple A9 CPU is one of the bigger speed bumps we've seen (more significant than the A7 to A8). RAM has doubled and the cameras have gotten a serious resolution bump. And then there's 3D Touch, a new way of interacting with the touch screen. The LTE 4G radio is even faster, matching the evolution of cellular technology and the phone still supports WiFi calling and VoLTE. There's a new color too: rose gold, which is actually pink. The new Touch ID sensor recognizes fingerprints so quickly you won't believe it's actually doing anything (it is). A...

Check out BlackBerry Priv

Image
Leave it to BlackBerry: just when you thought hardware keyboards were a thing of the past, they release a new model with a QWERTY keyboard. Nope, it doesn't run BlackBerry OS, it runs Android. The company formerly known as RIM hasn't had an easy time in the past few years; their market share dropped precipitously and they're now selling less than a million phones per quarter (Apple and Samsung sell tens of millions per quarter). Elegant and likeable though BlackBerry OS 10 may be, it came too late and Android and the iPhone had grabbed the majority mindshare. In a way, the BlackBerry Priv may be too late too. Two or three years ago when BlackBerry users were jumping ship in droves and adopting iOS and Android, a "BlackBerry-ized" Android smartphone would've been a hit. Take the things you know and love about BlackBerry and bring them with you to Android, BlackBerry brand included. Now that BlackBerry OS phones have single digit mark...

Acer Aspire E5

Image
The Acer Aspire E line of laptops is overwhelmingly large. It encompasses models priced from $350 to $800, sized from 14" to 15.6" to 17.3" (price isn't particularly tied to size). Most Aspire E models are low to middle of the road in terms of price, and our relatively higher end $649, 15.6" model (573G-56RG) with NVIDIA GeForce 940M dedicated graphics offers a lot of bang for the buck. You get a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 gigs of RAM and a 1TB hard drive for the price. Dual band WiFi 802.11ac with MIMO and Bluetooth 4.0 are standard. This model has a full HD 1920 x 1080 display that's matte but doesn't support touch. Not bad, for the money if you're looking for an affordable laptop with modest to moderate gaming chops. Design and Build Befitting its price, the Aspire E5 is clad in plastics, but Acer uses an interesting raised pattern that they call linen (it reminds me of gabardine) that jaz...

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Spin

Image
Samsung doesn't offer many laptop models in the US, and when they do, they're generally stunningly designed high end machines with an attention to assembly and materials that brings to mind luxury sports cars and Apple products. Rumors swirled in 2015 that Samsung was going to abandon their PC efforts, and in fact we didn't see significant new models. Near the end of 2015 Samsung reaffirmed their commitment to making laptops and we saw two new models, our 13.3" Samsung ATIV Book 9 Spin and the 15.6" ATIV Book 9 Pro. The Pro goes after the Dell XPS 15 and 15" Retina MacBook Pro ; a new segment for Samsung. The Spin is the ATIV Book 9 Plus and older Series 9 reborn with the popular 360 degree hinge, like those of the Lenovo Yoga models and HP Spectre x360 . It competes with the Spectre and Yoga 900 directly, and indirectly with the 13" MacBook Pro with Retina display and even the Microsoft Surface Pro ...
